⚠️ Risk

The sample of that product was submitted for testing and found to fail the following requirements of the standard:– wick guard not fitted, wick exposed;– filler cap not secure, a push fit glass tube;– oil leaked freely when lamp tipped over;– no labelling, including nothing about the danger of oil ingestion and what to do if it is accidentally ingested. This product poses a risk of poisoning that can occur following the ingestion of even small quantities of the oil used as fuel. A condition known as lipoid pneumonia may be caused by the entry into a child’s lung by a very small quantity of the oil, as is likely in the event of aspiration following vomiting. Part of the lung may fill with fluid which may then become infected or turn to fibrous tissue. The short term effect is serious breathing difficulty that may result in death. The hazard recognition of this possibility is remote unless clear instructions and warnings are used. The risks associated with fire are obvious, and hazard recognition is good. This product does not comply with the relevant European Standard.
