The product poses a risk of poisoning because the plastic beads have been sprayed with the toxic substance 1,4 Butanediol (BDO). If ingested, BDO may metabolise in the body into the substance gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), which is known as a party drug. This substance can cause dizziness, cramps and unconsciousness and at higher doses may also lead to coma and death.Various incidents have been reported globally.
